Ultimate Tic Tac Toe is a strategic extension of traditional Tic Tac Toe, played on a 3x3 grid of smaller Tic Tac Toe boards. Each small board functions as its own game, and together they form a larger "meta-board." Players take turns placing their mark (X or O) in the squares of the small boards, with an important twist: the location of a player's move within a small board dictates which small board the opponent must play in next. For example, placing a mark in the top-right square of any mini board sends the opponent to the top-right board on their next turn. If the directed board is already won or full, the opponent may choose any open square on any remaining board. Winning a small board requires securing three marks in a row within that board, and once claimed, that board counts as a single square on the overarching game board. The objective is to win three small boards in a row on the large board—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally—mirroring the win condition of the original game but on a larger and more complex scale. This layered structure demands not only tactical play within individual boards but also strategic foresight across the entire meta-game.
